How have I never seen these before?

Temari is an ancient Japanese art that involves embroidering a ball of thread. Its practicers experiment with patterns and colors to create often intricate geometric string creations. Seems like there’s a lot of room for creativity, along with a pretty large possibility of error (or imperfection, I guess), but that only makes me want to learn even more. I’d like to cover an entire tree with these- I’ll have to buy ’em or try ’em.

Wow. I especially love the one with orange and white, probably because I can’t even begin to think of how they did that.

these are so lovely! I have a very old one given me by Japanese friends – it is so special that it came with a name: “lily”. It is a real treasure, and so are these! Thanks.
