Missed Connections

For the past year, Sophie Blackall has been illustrating missed connections from craigslist. It’s a really fascinating concept- taking a really private experience that’s been publicized on the internet, and calling it out from the giant jumble of subway glances and inordinary coincidences that populate missed connections. Really entertaining to flip through and take a look at all of them.

There’s plenty more where these came from.

What a neat idea! I almost wish there were people visible in some of these.

These sculpture/painting combinations by Shintaro Ohata are great.

Most pieces look like a frame from an elaborate, monochromatic stop-motion film, right? Maybe some day in the future we’ll see these sculptures in action.

Some of you will immediately understand why I was drawn to this. Not just for the ever important awesome-artwork-on-beer-label factor, but also, that’s a MANATEE. A sea cow. A floating lump of blub. The least exciting animals on the face of the planet have found a happy little home on the brown bottle of an IPA from Bold City Brewery in Jacksonville, FL. I like it, and Kendrick Kidd completes the set with a colorful collection of labels and tap handles.

After spotting this identity for Farmers Fare, I dug around Decoder’s site a bit more. They have some great work:
